Eduardo Agosta Scarel participates at the 96th American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting in New Orleans
Eduardo Agosta Scarel, O.Carm., attended the 96th AMS Annual Meeting
(https://annual.ametsoc.org/2016/) participating at the 28th Conference on Climate Variability and Change as a climate scientist member of the AMS. The meeting was held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans between Jan 9 and 14 2016. The Climate Conference was one among more than fifteen simultaneous conferences and symposia organized in the venue. The 96th AMS Annual Meeting brought together from all over the world, though most American citizens, more than 3,700 members of the weather, water and climate community for a week of activity to learn, share and communicate skills and experiences. The annual theme of the meeting was “Earth System Science in Service to Society.” Eduardo also was the representative of the Iberian and Latin American Federation of Meteorological Societies (FLISMET) and the Argentine Meteorological Society (CAM) at the International Forum of Meteorological Societies (IFMS) Global Meeting # 4 (http://www.ifms.org/ifms/index.cfm/meetings/ifms-global-meeting-four/) that was held during the AMS meeting. In this occasion, it was discussed the role of communication in linking World Meteorological Societies and Civil Social Societies. There was a commitment to help create new Meteorological Societies in those nations where they are not yet present, as well as to assist those who have not yet joined the forum. The Members of the IFMS also organized an agenda to implement a program to organize Professional Accreditation process for those MetSoc which require it. Eduardo was nominated and elected member of the IFMS Council for a period of 12 months. The new councilors are entrusted to lead the IFMS towards a new state of governance. Sister Annah Theresa Nyadombo attended the International Coordination Meeting against human trafficking held in Rome. Presentations of the program and a working methodology included sessions titled: The mosaic of trafficking in persons where participants shared their experience of the types of recruitment, transportation and exploitation of victims in different places of origin; The mosaic of interventions where participants shared strategies for prevention and methods of assistance of victims in different places of origin; and The alternative where participants reexamined the prophetic vision of TalithaKum.
