MEDIA RELEASE - Classics at Picton Inc July
2016 Guitars to soothe storm ravaged Picton Classics
at Picton’s next concert will be a fund-raiser to help devastated businesses
and residents get back on their feet.
All profits from the 28 August concert will be donated to an appropriate
fund. Concert goers will be able also to
donate to the fund if they have not so far been able to do so. Frederic
Chopin once famously said “Nothing is
more beautiful than a guitar, save perhaps two!” What might he have said about 30
guitarists playing together? 2016
is a landmark year for the Classical Guitar Society (CGS) as it is the society’s
25th Anniversary. Part of the
concert will be a celebration of those years and what better way to do that
than to feature some of the favourite themes of the movies of the period with
arrangements by the CGS’s Richard Carlton and Christopher Keane. Christopher conducted a wonderful concert at
Picton some years ago by the Sydney Mandolin Orchestra. There
will also be solo guitar music by J S Bach and South American composers. The orchestra will also be recognizing the
anniversaries of Enrique Granados from Spain (the 100th anniversary
of his death) and Eric Satie from France (the 150th anniversary of
his birth). The
CGS, like Classics at Picton is committed to providing a platform for young
players as these are the future of classical music in our country. This concert will include solos featuring
three young members of CGS: Andrew Blanche (Ph D student at Canberra School of
Music), James McDonald and Ben Secrett (both recent graduates from The Sydney
Conservatorium of Music). They will also
be bringing the young talented players from Liesa Adlington Guitar Academy in
Wollongong to participate in this concert. As
usual the concert will be held in the intimate atmosphere of the Shire Hall in
Picton. Doors will open at 1.00pm for a
1.30 start. Admission is $20 with no
charge for children or students and afternoon tea is included. Enquiries John 02 46771331 or mobile 0407 999 765; Geraldine 02 4681 0768 |
